East Haven’s Zullo gets legislative committee assignments, including vets affairs

EAST HAVEN — Newly-elected state Rep. Joe Zullo, R-East Haven, has been assigned to the General Assembly’s Housing, Veterans Affairs and Finance, Revenue and Bonding committees.

House Minority Leader Themis Klarides, R-Derby, announced Zullo’s assignments Tuesday, according to a release from the House Republican leadership. Zullo was sworn in Friday.

“I am ready to get to work on behalf of the residents of East Haven,” Zullo said in the release.

“While door-knocking during the campaign, residents voiced a clear desire for our state government to start reining-in reckless spending and expressed disappointment about newly proposed taxes and the implementation of tolls,” he said. “Moving forward, I will fight against wasteful spending and the newly proposed taxes that threaten to hurt middle class families in East Haven and across Connecticut.”

Zullo’s first committee meeting will be a Veterans’ Affairs meeting Thursday.

“We have a large veteran contingent in East Haven and I am very proud to be starting off my tenure in the legislature discussing what we can do for all the dedicated service people across the state who have done so much for us all,” Zullo said in the release.

East Haven residents can contact Zullo at 860-240-8700, or via his website at

Zullo is the first Republican to hold the seat since Paul Karbowski in 1985.
